Review: Foxconn MARS P35

1.foxconn mars-small.jpgTHE GOOD: Like Gigabyte's dq6 and Asus's MVP deluxe, MARS stands for highest quality of motherboards at Foxconn. Foxconn is using best quality elements and introducing some of new features. Mars P35 builds on Intel P35 chipset, which isn’t the newest anymore, but still supports all 65-nm Intel CPUs (and some of the 45nm), including all older Intel processors on LGA775 socket. Main part of the motherboard is big passive cooler shaped in heat-pipe configuration, and which is joined together to a big passive cooler in the middle. One could mount fan on it, but this is not necessary. Motherboard is the only one that offers 4-pin connector for this fan, which is a great plus, as fan is actively controlled - this results in lowest possible noise at any moment. Welcome addition are also small switches located on motherboard, offering quick access to reset, power and clear bios functions  (instead of jumpers) - something that all overclockers will appreciate and also others that leave their chassis open. Motherboard supports AMD's parallel graphics configuration CrossFire. Audio output is possible also thru coaxial and optical digital output. Hearth of this foxconn motherboard is definitely the Gladiator BIOS - special bios supporting all configurations relevant to overclockers. But fear not - for all less demanding and technical, there are also pre set profiles, allowing quick  and stable and robust overclocking - with backup plan to enable last-working profile - great when pushing the limit too far…

THE BAD: It’s a shame, that motherboard features only one Ethernet port. Also, the power regulation is "only" 6-phase, which falls behind some of the competitor models. Price of the motherboard might be too high, especially when compared to newest offerings (with new chipsets) - some of them are already supporting 1333 MHz FSB CPUs (all 45-nm Intel products destined to come out by year’s end)…
